Hi there! I'm Betsie Nielson, Registered Yoga Teacher and owner of Sunflower Point Yoga.

Since 1996 I have lived in the tiny rural community of Dove Creek, Colorado. Our daughter is grown and raising her own family so it's just my husband, myself and our very spoiled Basset hound and kitty cat now. I am a teacher by trade and taught high school English for about 15 years before I started working remotely doing instructional design work for corporate clients.

I loved yoga from the first moment I tried it in my living room using a DVD several years ago. I immediately connected with the calming movement, but didn’t actually take a live yoga class for many years. When I finally did, I felt both an energy charge and a sense of peace throughout my body. I love the strength and flexibility it has given my middle-aged body and the calm it brings to my heart and mind!

During my 50th year I decided to commit to deepening my personal yoga practice and then my teacher soul was called to teach yoga so I could share my passion with others like me. At age 51 I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training, proving you are never too old and it's not too late to begin!

I am a plus-size post-menopausal grandmother of average physical ability who may never be able to do the fancy Instagram-worthy poses or handstands - and that's quite OK with me! Yoga is not about being thin, flexible or physically strong. It's about moving our bodies intentionally and learning to connect our breath to our physical movements in order to use both more efficiently. I strive to make sure my classes are inclusive of all body types, ages, ethnicities and genders. Additionally, I believe that through service to others we all grow and prosper, so I offer my yoga classes at a minimal rate to ensure accessibility to all.
